Working with Calyn has been an incredibly rewarding experience! At B3 Gym, we LOVE to see our members reach their goals and find success with their performance in the gym. While Calyn has improved her fitness, she’s also seen so many positive changes in her confidence and self-esteem through our fitness and nutrition program. Keep reading to hear more about her experience:
What were you struggling with before you signed up for our nutrition program? Why were you interested in getting started? What finally motivated you to start?
In 2020, I reached my highest weight of 185 lb. I knew I was not where I wanted to be, but I was having a hard time implementing the changes that I knew were critical for weight loss success. I had been working out consistently for over a year but missing the nutrition piece to fuel my body and complement the effort I was putting in at the gym. I finally decided to begin nutrition coaching because I realized that my desire to lose weight and improve my fitness were not enough, and felt that Karen’s expertise and support would give me new ideas for changes I could make and help me with motivation.
How did our nutrition program help solve that problem or how has it helped you on your journey to this point?
The nutrition program helped me identify how undereating early in the day actually caused me to overeat at night. It was so interesting to see how the simple change of adding breakfast each day really changed my hunger levels as the day progressed.
What was or is different about our nutrition program compared to diets you’ve tried in the past?
I really liked how the nutrition program focused on the many areas of life that can affect our food choices and metabolism, it was not just a food and exercise program. I also liked the mindset of “treats not cheats” – it’s okay to indulge once in a while and it’s nothing to feel guilty about.
Take us to the moment when you realized our nutrition program was actually working to solve your problem. What was the change you noticed?
The first change I noticed was how consistently eating breakfast changed my hunger levels throughout the day and I no longer felt ravenous and overate after getting home from work. This change happened before I even saw weight change on the scale!
Tell us what life looks like now that your problem is solved or being solved?
At this point, I have lost 20 lbs and am really seeing and appreciating the changes! The most rewarding changes have been in my athleticism. It’s much easier to run and move my body now! I’m excited to start working on pull-up skills, and know that being a lighter body weight will make that goal more achievable. In terms of self-esteem, I no longer shy away from looking at myself in the mirror. I finally bought a full-length mirror for my house and I actually pause at the mirror and admire my strong body and pose in a little bicep flex!
How has the accountability and support of nutrition coaching helped you stay on track?
I was encouraged by Karen as I began the nutrition program, but wasn’t seeing weight loss. I actually didn’t begin losing weight until my 3rd month! It took a long time for my new eating habits to be established, but I really feel that they are lifestyle changes that are really sticking. After 7 months, I still eat breakfast every day and my go-to snack choice is an apple and handful of almonds!
What would you say to someone looking to get started with their own health and wellness journey?
You deserve to feel good in your body! Investing time and resources into your health will always be worthwhile, and you don’t have to do it alone. Though it can be tough to find the courage to ask for help, you can be assured that Coach Karen and the B3 community are going to be there cheering on and supporting you as you define your goals, face challenges, and thrive in your wellness journey.
